Drumming and singing, a procession of participants at Saturday’s Day of Resilience celebration made its way from the Cambridge court house to the water’s edge at Longwarf.
It was a tribute to Harriet Tubman in the ongoing Inaugural Harriet Tubman Summit.
People gathered by the sculpture Becon of Hope even before the event, anticipating the honors, prayer and celebration.
Speakers introduced several honorees, including Dion Banks, a historian, author and co-founder of the Eastern Shore Network for Change. He spoke about the historic ties and family roots to the variety of people present for the ceremonies.
The event included a Harriet Tubman tribute speaker, a salute to graduates of a ministerial program, and remarks from Mayor Lajan Cephas Bey.
One of the highlights was the drum procession down High Street, led by Nana Mayla, who offered what she called a libation – a spiritual tribute and prayer – for all ancestors of the people who have come to call Cambridge home.
