Radio Chesapeake was honored Saturday with multiple awards from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcast Association for news and commentary in 2025.
Judges in the journalism competition gave Radio Chesapeake News Director Jim Brady two first-place honors – for Outstanding News Series and Best Investigative Reporting – in his coverage of Cambridge Waterfront Development Incorporated's handling of Cambridge Harbor.
Dr. Kerry Forrestal was honored with 1st place for commentary in his examination of bogus claims that vaccines cause autism in his Actual Factual Medicine series on Radio Chesapeake.
“Working with Radio Chesapeake these past years on Actual Factual Medicine has created a platform to counter the misinformation harming so many today,” said Forrestal, an author and hospital emergency doctor. “It is entirely likely that while you read this, I am dealing first hand with the effects of that misinformation.”
“But to the positive, I've met so many incredible people and am grateful that such an esteemed group as the Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association has acknowledged our piece on autism. With vaccination rates falling and outbreaks rising, we need to oppose the idea that vaccines have ANYTHING to do with autism everywhere we can."
The awards were announced Saturday at CAPBA's annual meeting in Ocean City, where 27 broadcast new organizations competed for honors in radio and TV programs.
“I am excited to come to work because of the talented people we have on the air,” said Radio Chesapeake station manager Amanda Tilghman. "Our local news coverage has helped us grow so much in the last year and it shows in our membership and the messages of support we get all the time. Our team's drive in local journalism inspires me and so many others at the station.”
