Cambridge Harbor planners say they will distribute a request for proposals from national brokers who can recruit major developers to take on the project. This comes as a major step in the long-standing effort to get the 35-acre site on the Choptank River under construction.
The announcement by Cambridge Waterfront Development Incorporated follows years of delay and discord between CWDI’s volunteer board, which at one point declared itself the master developer, and Cambridge city officials, who brought a lawsuit to get CWDI to comply with a contract to seek and appoint a developer. That case was later settled.
A press release from CWDI describes the project as “a walkable, mixed-use destination inspired by the principles of new urbanism”. It continued, “Cambridge Harbor will integrate residential, retail, hospitality, and community spaces alongside a vibrant waterfront promenade.”
