Discovering the past at Blackwater.A newly acquired piece of property at Blackwater NWR is now the site of an exciting excavation! Local historians believe the area may have been the home of Harriet Tubman’s father, Ben Ross. Archaeologists with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration are currently working in the area with the hopes of learning more about the life of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad in Dorchester County. The refuge is excited to play a part in preserving our local and national history.
